Kapri DeRamus was supposed to be on his way to his wedding on September 5. Instead, a head-on car crash sent him to Orlando Regional Medical Center just hours before he was set to marry Tyasia Thomas.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle crossed into DeRamus’s lane on East Altamonte Drive and struck his car. DeRamus suffered serious injuries, including broken arms, a broken jaw and rib, and a deep cut to his knee.
But the crash did not stop the wedding.
After DeRamus was stabilized, he and Thomas decided to get married at the hospital that same evening. Friends and family gathered around his hospital bed, while his grandfather officiated the ceremony. Nurses even helped make a bouquet from flowers around the hospital.
Instead of the wedding they had planned, the couple made a new memory—one that began in a hospital room.
DeRamus has since been released from the hospital and is focusing on his recovery. The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
It was not the ceremony they planned, but it was the marriage they wanted.
