Physiomesh® Hernia Patch Complication Lawsuits

Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Ethicon has stopped selling a surgical mesh product, used in minimally invasive hernia repairs, called Physiomesh® after unpublished data from two independent hernia registries demonstrated a higher recurrence of hernias and revision surgeries. Ethicon could not determine the cause of the failure problems, but Ethicon has had issues with transvaginal mesh used to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence in women. Thousands of lawsuits are pending for the transvaginal mesh products.

About Physiomesh

Physiomesh is a hernia patch used to strengthen the abdominal wall in hernia repair surgeries. Hernias occur when underlying tissue or organs squeeze through weak spots in the abdominal wall. Mesh is the preferred repair as it is supposed to minimize the possibility for infections and pain. These repairs can be done laparascopically or as part of an open surgery when there is a major tear in the abdominal wall. The mesh was used to help prevent re-opening of the hernias and was approved through the FDA’s 510K process.

Physiomesh® Complications

Patients implanted with the Physiomesh hernia patch may experience multiple complications that could include the following:

  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Hernia recurrence
  • Adhesion (scar-like tissue that sticks tissue together)
  • Intestinal blockage
  • Mesh migration
  • Mesh shrinkage (contraction)
  • Bleeding
  • Perforation
  • Surgery

If you or a loved one has had an hernia repair and are concerned about the future or have experienced any of the complications listed above it is important that you contact our firm as soon as possible to discuss your personal situation.

“I am so thankful for EVERYONE, the entire staff at Osborne & Francis Law, for mentoring me through the mediation process with my hip replacement failures. I didn't realize how MUCH pressure they relieved me of by helping me deal with the reality of this traumatic time in my life, as it was OVER so quickly with a positive result. My family is grateful to have their mom HAPPY & FOCUSED on the future, rather than worrying over what happened in the past! FAST FORWARD, we are LIVING LIFE to the fullest once again!”

“Attorneys Greg Francis and Ryan Fletcher at Osborne & Francis Law Firm represented me in my personal injury case. The defendant drew a line in the sand and was adamant on a settlement amount I was almost willing to accept. After the dust settled and the smoke cleared, we settled for 3 times that amount!!! When they say ‘Real Tough Lawyers,’ they mean it.”

Quick and fair resolution to a unique case. On advice of my own attorney, I engaged Joseph Osborne of Osborne & Francis of Boca Raton, FL. Mr. Osborne had considerable experience in cases such as mine and the results showed that. Mr. Osborne and his staff were very helpful, kept me up to date, and listened to my input. The settlement was very fair as far as I am concerned.
