A recent study analyzed the prevalence of nursing home abuse and found that:
- Nearly 1 in 3 nursing homes violated federal standards that had the potential to lead to serious harm while 1 in 10 actually caused residents serious harm
- 44% of nursing home residents reported being abused and 95% reported that they had been personally neglected or witnessed instances of neglect against other residents
- More than 50% of staff admitted to acts of physical violence, neglect and emotional abuse against residents
