Osborne & Francis Law Firm is proud to be included as an honoree of the Daily Business Review’s Annual Florida Legal Award for “Diversity and Inclusion” (Law Firm category). These annual legal awards, which recognize attorneys and their firms for professional excellence in their legal work across Florida, will be presented to the winners at an in-person event on May 19, 2021 in Miami.
Unjust Treatment Among Minority Groups
Accidents can happen to anyone. Unfortunately, many Floridians suffer personal injuries as a result of an auto accident, medical malpractice, consumer product, or other form of negligence. But while these accidents and injuries occur across socioeconomic and racial demographics, the subsequent treatment of those impacted isn’t always just.
People are often mistreated on the basis of who they are or where they come from. These inequities cannot continue. At Osborne & Francis Law Firm, we continue to invest in the health, education, and success of local marginalized communities and will always act in our clients’ best interest. We will always do what is right — no matter how hard it may be.
Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion is always important, and the legal industry is no exception. As lawyers we strive to ensure that each and every individual receives equal justice under the law. Without diversity within our profession and organization, we would fail to adequately reflect the cultures, races, nationalities, genders, religions, and sexual orientations of those whom we represent.
How we interact with the law is often influenced by our background and life experiences. That’s why selecting a law firm that understands diverse backgrounds, and their accompanying needs, can make a big difference. We handle a variety of legal disputes and civil rights cases, such as those based on:
- Racial discrimination
- Gender discrimination
- False arrest
- Excessive force expelled by law enforcement
- Wrongful conviction
Unfortunately, many minority groups are repeatedly overlooked and underserved. They frequently fail to receive the same treatment as their majority counterparts and often lack many of the same opportunities. This has been widely seen over the last year during which the coronavirus pandemic disproportionately impacted many marginalized groups. At the same time, the Black Lives Matter movement highlighted the unfair treatment commonly experienced by Black Americans to this day.
At Osborne & Francis Law Firm we continually work to ensure that each and every one of our clients is treated with the same respect and justice under the law deserved by all people. Nominated for the award as a firm, Osborne & Francis Law Firm is honored to know that these important values of inclusivity and diversity, shared by each of our attorneys, have been recognized.
Historic Civil Rights Case Won on Behalf of Black Farmers
These principles of inclusivity and diversity are more than just our values; they are the foundation upon which we practice law. Recently, our firm’s partner, Greg Francis, led a team of lawyers in reaching a $1.25 billion settlement with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on behalf of thousands of black farmers.
From 1981-1996, these farmers allegedly suffered systematic discrimination by the USDA, which allegedly denied black farmers the same loans, subsidies, and other benefits.
As a result of this civil rights settlement — the largest of its kind recorded in U.S. history — more than 33,000 black farmers or their heirs have received a payment of $50,000 (and an additional $12,500 paid to the IRS to cover the taxes owed on this awarded amount).
Florida Personal Injury Lawyers
At Osborne & Francis Law Firm, we’re real, tough lawyers fighting your real, tough issues. We strive to provide victims of personal injury with both the personalized feel of a small law firm and the resources and aggressive legal representation of a large firm.
Your case is assigned to a team of investigators and experts who will work hard to preserve important evidence as well as witness testimony needed to best prove your case. Instead of concerning ourselves with a quick or easy outcome, we spare no resources in order to ensure that you are put in an optimal position to succeed.
Although monetary reimbursement for losses is extremely important, our work extends beyond financial awards. We don’t care about our clients’ socioeconomic or racial background, but rather that each and every one of them is treated with the respect and dignity that they deserve.
As a Black-owned law firm, we understand firsthand the importance of diversity and inclusion. We believe that every life matters equally and we hope to demonstrate this through our strong cohesion, character, conviction, and contribution to our surrounding communities in Boca Raton and Orlando.
