Woman arrested on DUI charge in crash that killed skateboarder in Deltona

VOLUSIA, FL – A woman is under arrest in connection with a fatal accident last year in Deltona, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

57-year-old Laurie A. Colletti was arrested last Wednesday and charged with DUI manslaughter for the crash that took place on Feb. 24, 2021.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Colletti was driving a Nissan Rogue in the area of Normandy Boulevard and Merrimac Street when the incident happened shortly after 9 p.m.  According to investigators, she struck 31-year-old John Ramos from behind as he stood on the side of the road holding his skateboard. He died the following day at Central Florida Regional Hospital.

A blood test reportedly showed that Colletti’s’ blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Following her arrest, she was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail on $10,000 bail.
