News: Multi-vehicle accident in Titusville leaves elderly driver dead

TITUSVILLE, FL – Police said a multi-vehicle accident in Titusville Wednesday morning left one person dead and two others injured.

In a news release, the Titusville Police Department said the incident occurred near the 3000 block of Cheney Highway at about 11 a.m.

According to investigators, 87-year-old Franklyn Brookins of Cocoa was driving a Hyundai Tucson on Cheney Highway and failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he made a turn into the entrance of a Walmart store.  The Tucson was struck on the passenger side by a westbound Nissan Sentra driven by 79-year-old Erika Bostwick of Titusville.  The Tucson also struck a Dodge Challenger that was at the stop sign exiting the Walmart.

Bostwick was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.  Brookins and the driver of the Challenger, 62-year-old Paul Wilson of Titusville, were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Titusville police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the wreck.
