TAVARES, FL – An elderly driver died after her car was involved in an accident in Lake County on Tuesday morning, police said.
WESH reports the victim was an 82-year-old woman driving a Toyota Camry. Witnesses told Tavares police that the woman drove through a red light at the intersection of David Walker Drive and Dora Avenue at about 10:30 a.m.
The Camry was hit by a Chevrolet Explorer that had a green light. A police officer climbed through the passenger window of the Camry and pulled out the driver. But despite attempted life-saving measures by paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead. Her name was not released.
The intersection was shut down for about three hours for the cleanup and investigation.
