Driver killed, passenger seriously injured in collision at Pine Hills intersection

PINE HILLS, FL – Two vehicles were involved in a fatal collision in Pine Hills on Saturday evening, WKMG reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver was trying to make a left turn onto Powers Drive at the intersection with Silver Star Road just before 7 p.m.  The vehicle was struck by an oncoming car going west on Silver Star Road, causing the first vehicle to strike an electrical pole and then a parked, unoccupied sedan.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 57-year-old woman from Orlando, was pronounced dead at an area hospital.  Her passenger, a 32-year-old man from Orlando, was seriously injured.  The FHP said neither person in that car was wearing a seat belt.  The driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year-old man from Ocoee, sustained minor injuries.

Both vehicles had a yellow traffic light at the time they collided according to the FHP, which is continuing its investigation into the wreck.
