MELBOURNE, FL – Authorities said a rollover car accident on Interstate 95 left one man dead and another injured Saturday morning.
According to WKMG, the two were riding in a pickup truck on I-95 southbound near Melbourne when the incident took place at about 4:40 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver went off the roadway at mile marker 179 and then overcorrected. The pickup went across the southbound lanes, onto the right shoulder of the interstate, and overturned multiple times.
The driver was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. He was a 37-year-old Palm Bay man whose name was not released. He was not wearing a seat belt, the FHP said.
His passenger, a 33-year-old man from Palm Bay, was seriously injured and hospitalized. The passenger was wearing a seat belt.
The FHP is continuing its investigation into the accident.
