DELAND, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a dirt bike rider was killed in an accident near DeLand last Thursday night, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.
Investigators said the rider was heading north on State Road 15A at about 10:30 p.m. and crashed into the side of a Toyota Corolla that was making a left turn onto Euclid Avenue.
The dirt bike rider, a 20-year-old man from Altamonte Springs, was ejected from the bike. He was pronounced dead after being taken to AdventHealth DeLand. The driver of the Toyota, a 36-year-old DeLand man, was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries. A 26-year-old passenger in the car was not hurt.
The FHP said the dirt bike did not have lights and the driver of the sedan was not able to see the bike prior to the collision. The bike rider was not wearing a helmet, troopers said.
